Did you catch this John: NY Times Idea Lab, 3.12.06?

I had skipped over the article when skimming the NY Times this weekend, thanks for pointing it out to me, definitely interesting.
I haven't followed the privacy vs. security debates in Washington too closely, although from what little I've read I do think the government has compromised civil liberties more than they should have. Nevertheless, the government hasn't overstepped as much as with the Alien and Sedition Acts or Japanese-American internment, at least for American citizens. The way we're treating non-U.S. citizens is another story (http://www.salon.com/news/abu_ghraib/2006/03/14/introduction/).
As for databases and privacy, Reason magazine had a feature almost two years ago called "Database Nation
The upside of zero privacy". Check it out. http://www.reason.com/0406/fe.dm.database.shtml
